Silver Fern Farms, the largest company in the red meat industry in New Zealand, selected ActiveDocs Opus for automated creation of compliant work procedures across all 21 processing plants. The solution enforces compliance of work procedure documents with the company's internal policies and industry regulations. The ActiveDocs Opus application is integrated with Silver Fern Farms' SharePoint 2013 platform and Nintex Workflow 2013.
Stewart Cowan, Enterprise Systems Manager at Silver Fern Farms, said: “The main reasons we selected ActiveDocs Opus were the range of features and the capability of tight integration with SharePoint, which is our content management system. Additionally, it was the enterprise scale that ActiveDocs could bring to our company. ActiveDocs has proved itself with large international companies, with hundreds of thousands of complex documents being created annually. Some of the competitors we evaluated were much smaller, for instance a client PC based solution, rather than a server-side, proper three-tier solution.”
Silver Fern Farms' compliance officers can now control and manage content of all work procedure documents from a single access point, ActiveDocs Opus. When a new regulatory requirement needs to be implemented, the related content is updated centrally and automatically distributed into the work procedure documents it relates to; this may apply to all plants and all documents or a subgroup of thereof – for example new regulations may only affect plants which process beef, but no change may be required for lamb processing plants. The officer can decide whether the regulatory change needs to result in formal staff training, and appropriate training workflow processes may be automatically triggered.
ActiveDocs Opus’ native integration with Microsoft Word avoided any document format conversion issues and Silver Fern Farms can keep using all advanced formatting, graphics, and shapes they need to describe their work procedures and achieve compliance with internal policies, health and safety legislation, and industry specific regulations.
Catherine Larsen, ActiveDocs VP for Business Development, New Zealand, said: “Silver Fern Farms have undergone an in-depth proof-of-concept project that assessed the capabilities of the product within company's own environment. ActiveDocs Opus met all requirements for deep integration with SharePoint 2013 content management and showed an outstanding capability to work within business processes orchestrated by Nintex Workflow 2013.”
Stewart Cowan added: “The implementation of our quality documents solution has shown that ActiveDocs Opus is the piece of the puzzle that completes the SharePoint and Nintex products; they all work together. It’s been gratifying to me that that it’s worked so well, and this solution provides a good template for the future.”
